Getting to Know the Luxury Features of the Hyundai Sonata
December 12 2019 - cmascolonialhyundai_author
The Hyundai Sonata has become synonymous with upending sedan styles and formats, and the current model is no different. As soon as it hit the test track, journalists and car lovers waited with bated breath to find out more. Now that it’s here, we can finally explore some of those features that Hyundai imbued the car with, particularly the luxury touches that set the Sonata apart from every other full-sized sedan on the market.
Exterior Styling
We’ll begin with what is arguably the most noticeable thing about the car – the exterior styling. It’s sleek and sultry, closer to something you would expect to see from Jaguar or Audi than from Hyundai. The fastback design speaks of speed and performance, as does the oversized front grille and large wheels. The headlights and wraparound running lights add to the performance-oriented style, as does the raked window design, both front and rear. However, this fastback has a full trunk rather than a hatch, and the opening is wide enough for your luggage, golf clubs, or anything else you might need to carry with you.
Digital Gauge Cluster
Next up is the massive digital cluster in the dash. We’re not talking about the center console, which is impressive in its own right, but about the gauges that usually display information such as speed, fuel level, RPM, and the like. The conventional cluster has been removed, and a new 12.3-inch digital affair installed. It’s completely customizable so you can get access to precisely the information that you want when you want it, and it even includes built-in feeds from the blind-spot monitoring system so you can see what’s beside you without turning your head.
Leather-Trimmed Seats
While Hyundai is not offering Nappa leather seats in the US, they are providing US customers with access to leather-trimmed seating. Supple, luxurious, and warm, it’s a touch of additional style that sets the entire car off.
Two Engine Choices
Unlike some other automakers we could mention, the current Hyundai Sonata comes with two engine choices to help you get the output and performance that you desire. The first is a 2.5-liter gasoline direct-injection engine that manages to pump out 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The other is a 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Both come with a smooth-shifting eight-speed transmission.
Safety and Security
Hyundai threw in pretty much any sort of safety and security system they could think of with the current Hyundai Sonata. You get your standard options like TPMS and the like, but you also have three radar systems, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and more cameras than there are sides on the car. Also, you benefit from systems like lane-keeping assistance, smart cruise control, highway driving assistance, and forward collision avoidance systems.
